gcc and mingw are not the same thing. they are equivalent however. mingw is the windows attempt at gcc

The word 'attempt' is slightly demeaning. A more neutral description would be a Windows port of gcc.

attempt doesnt have to be demeaning. its just how i talk. i think they did a good job with mingw

a gcc compiler does works with windows.
but i am like 93-96 % sure.
