C++ Game managerial/strategic shift

I develop a managerial game/turn-based strategy, with the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence). Can you give me some advice on what kind of game you might develop and how to implement a possible AI in the game. Even some guidelines, if you know. I have to do a project where I exam are required this specification. I thought I was making a game-style travian or ogame, being my first project having never created a game, I ask those who are more experienced can give me some advice. If you know some project done in C++ to be able to take a look and give me some idea on reallizazione of such a project or how you can implement an artificial intelligence would be grateful.
