A guidance for ideas to program a robotic vehicle

im a starter in college and knows c and c++ languages up to basics..
im now willing to do a project of a robotic vehicle just a small one but need a good
start off with ideas for a program to control it..
anyone with a good basis crash course like notes plz post a few hints on how can i start my coding eg) which attributes to be included for classes and how to bring out intructions to move with the inputs
