API/Facebook

I'm graduating Computer Science. I'm in a project and I need to write a program that can stay always online (what it's not a problem at all) that when receives a text, can post automatically on facebook, and after a while, collect the answers from other people who has answered the post.
They advised me to search about API, specifically API of facebook (of course...), do you guys know any link or book who can help me about it?!
