MVS AntiVirus Issues and More

My first inquiry is about my AntiVirus software. I use Kaspersky, it came with my laptop. I also use MVS 2010 Express for my C++ class.

Sometimes Kaspersky blocks my ability to compile and run my code, other times it allows it. I have tried including it in the trusted applications and exclusions, but neither has worked. I will be willing to switch my AntiVirus software as long as the alternative is free.

My second question is about the language itself. What, if anything, is C++ good for outside of the classroom? Also, what texts and/or sources(like this site) would help me more with the theory and psuedo behind programming?

Have you ever played a large computer game before?
I play MOBA's if that's what you're talking about?
By "large" I meant that you had to install it (so that eliminates browser-based games).
MOBA - Multiplayer Online Battle Arena

Ran with a client. League of Legends to be exact.

Things like that, with C++?

What is all this talk I'm reading about that claims C++ to be unworthy of modern day use?
Could you link to some of this "talk"?
