There are a few people here with experience...ask your questions and you may get a response.
I am trying to learn the basics, before May 2. Is this possible?

That is a bit of a "How long is a piece of string" question.

Most tutorials/books I have seen suggest that you start with learning the basics of C first before learning Objective-C.

Yes C is the basic of C++, C# and the other languages. it is very easy for the beginners.
@ ConnorHunter: I wouldn't say that, and I have this site to prove it:

... a site which I strongly recommend you bookmark especially if you're a beginner.

It is possible to read some book on Objective C before May 2. If you have already experience with C/C++ then you will be able to learn the basics after that.:)
