Writing a Resume for Jobs/Internships

Does anyone here have any experience writing a resume for a computer science internship or job? I have never written one before, and before this I was a carpenter. Any useful tips? What exactly is expected to be included?

Thanks NwN. That is actually very helpful. I'm getting started creating my own website to showcase my projects and knowledge today. I think that might be my best shot at standing out.

Hi there,

I read an article a long time ago which claimed that if you want to stand out, you should consider sending your resume and cover letter by some express post service. The theory was that the recipient can't just ignore it, because they have to sign for it and it will make you look like you mean business.

Can't say whether it works or not, but I thought I'd share it anyway, for what it's worth.

If you google for model or sample resumes for programmers, you'll find all kinds of stuff. Though it seems what's expected does vary from country to country.

This one looks like a resonable role model for a US style resume for a new programmer:
