No surprise really, as it's been going downhill for many years now.
I don't I've ever seen anyone use WinAmp, or willingly search and download it. XD
back in the days it was the 1st software to install after operating system! Dem old times...
there's some serious support for open sourcing it. Knowing AOL, they'll probably sell it to microsoft.

There are free alternatives to Winamp such as Audacious that go less restrictive routes (and maintaining at least theme compatibility... unfortunately, plugins are a different matter).

There are too many Winamp clones slithering in the wild, already.
An open-source version of the "real thing" would just be drowned in the sea of clones.

EDIT: OK, maybe I'm exaggerating a little.

Even if it did happen, what good would that do? Look at Skype and how Microsoft made it worse.
