Linux Mint is now only a Terminal

I accidentally uninstalled the GTK+ 2.0 libraries on my Linux Mint 15 OS. I installed gtk-2.0-dev, but that did not fix the problem.

I need to get the files of that OS so I can update Linux Mint Olivia to Petra.

How can I fix this?
How did you uninstall GTK accidentally? Knowing that might help, because there could have been some collateral as well.

I recall that the Mint installer had an "upgrade" option that would overwrite system files while leaving user files intact. Maybe doing that would work as a fix?

Try booting of a live cd/usb and copying your files to another hard drive or usb
