You can just type in the address in a svn client and have instant access.

Just because some source repositories (e.g. all OSS repositories I can think of, which I'm guessing is where you get this misconception) allow anonymous logins with read permissions doesn't mean all must allow them. Disabling anonymous logins is a boolean in the server configuration.
