One thing has been bothering me though: why is VC2011 lagging behind in features? I mean, Microsoft must have more programmers on staff than the other two compiler teams combined.

I don't think that cross-platform-ish languages are at the top of Microsoft's priorities. Instead, .NET is better for keeping development for Windows exclusively, which is by far the more economical choice. If Microsoft had really wanted to support C++11, they would have most likely finished it long ago₁.
