Have you guys heard of these, this technology is kind of scary and pretty freaking cool

Yea they have been talked about for awhile now. The CEO of Google (Serj Something?) Sergey Brin has a personal pair you can see him wearing around at places. I think they're pretty awesome and would totally fork out the cash for one if they ever come out for public use.

Probably be a long time till they come to the public since the goverment will be quick to put restrictions on them. Only for military, FBI, Secret service, ect probably.

More then that,the final stage is suppose to be face recognition software where you can just look at someone and it will search (a database) or the internet for relevant information on them. Like for the secret service it could be used to scan crowds for people that are on a restricted list, and really the options are unlimited. I'm not to sure on how they control what is searched for any how they determine what information is relevant for that person but its pretty cool non the less.

The only way I can see them being "restricted" is if they signed a contract with the government agreeing to only sell to them.
@Zero, Google will not make a publicly available database of people. Google is not retarded to have forgotten about laws. I am in fact unable to find claims about facial recognition apart from
although that's from last spring. It is also extraordinarily unlikely that there will be some sort of software more capable than that in smartphones.

I never said google would make a database but what I ment was the goverment would use a database and they already have databases to use. Anyways obviously you wont find anything about facial reconition because this project is being kept very private and its basically all speculation. But in my opinion why else woupd you want glasses with computers in them? It would be a logical assumption. But I could always be wrong who k nows :/ but it still woud be cool
Also at naruku the goverment has the power to restrict techology tfrom the public and they do it all the time. Just because someone invents something for everyone doesn't mean that the goverment will allowit.

Well I could use a frying pan for a thousand other things but I usually use it to cook but ok nitpick all you guys want I was just saying it would be cool to have them for THAT reason and THAT would be a logical assumption.

Hey I think it would be cool too, but that doesn't mean they will put them in due to the reasons already discussed.
Certain levels of infra red and other imaging cameras are illegal for civilians to own in the UK so i imagine there could be a sutch thing soon as illeagal computer programs, it might make what we do so mutch more exiting

hey you reckon the secret service could secretly reserve the secret right to ignore all laws on privacy and hijack what you were seeing...to create a database? it would need facial recognision software built in but imagine what kind of massive boon it could be for the secret organisations, it would be like google maps but realtime and with personal data on each person.

Tanks, drones, advanced radio comms, basically everything the spec ops have, automatic weapons, GPS and mapping tech, software, optics, there is plenty of technology reserved for government only. Like 3D printing there are companies that can do amazing things with it but certain technology they use is reserved for the goverment only and they aren't allowed to use it on any public projects.

Now granted we do get our hands on the technology sooner or later but usually the top tier stuff is restricted to military only in some for or the other until it because "obsolete". Then it is passed down to civilians if it is deemed "safe" and not illegal.
And the goverment can do whatever they want lol its naive to think otherwises. Even right now the US goverment can take someone in the middle of the night and hold them without cause or trial for as long as they want. Its called the patriots act.

Trust me I know better then most what the military is. Private First Class of the 34th Infantry Division and have served oversees.
I guess I got to be specific, take most seal teams then, and yes even the guy that "drives the truck". Every single one of them probably have some sort of hardware whether it be special optics, special radio equipment, or whatever that you just can't have unless you are in some sort of Government program.

Zero, try to spell out your position. Are you against law in general? The examples of things that can't be owned by civilians you give are ones that make sense.

It seems cool, but in a normal, less than super-exciting sort of way.
I thought they would stereoscopic direct retinal beam injection glasses for total visual immersion, or something like that.
Let me know when those come out. That actually sounds a little scary.
EDIT: I think U.S. citizens are also restricted from owning supersonic aircraft.
