Localised Strings

Is there an easy way of getting simple localised strings that are bound to be lying around on the OS, e.g. "Error", "Please enter here", etc.

Have done some searching, but it turns out that the people who answer questions on here are good at searching, and those who ask questions aren't.

Thanks for any help.

PS: I should probably say I'm after a Windows Desktop API function.

There is no such thing, you must supply your localized strings with your application.
