How to use a Steam ID Finder for your Steam Profile Settings

A steam ID is a short description for a digital number that is assigned to each player of a multiplayer online video game. A SteamID is used to identify a single user of a multiplayer game and their Steam Profile. A Steam ID can also be used to log in to the Steam client, should you make any computer or internet setting changes. When you create a Steam ID, a random number generator is used to generate your unique username and password.

To lookup a user’s Steam profile name, download the key from Steamworks SDK website and then save it as a text document. To do this, you will need to log in to Steamworks. Navigate to "Change URL" and then click Browse to find the file containing your custom url. Your custom url will be the URL to your Steam profile. You will need to replace the /steamid/ with the corresponding custom url. After saving your custom url, launch Steam browser and enter /steamid as shown on right.

To see all the categories available for your custom URL search, you may have to click on the button "Search All". The Steamworks SDK will display all available games if you enter "Valve Gaming" as your search phrase. If there is more than 1 entry for a certain category, then you will see the bulge containing that particular ID number.

Click on the category that matches your url to continue. The next step is to click on "Search" to display all available games in that specific category. Simply type your steam ID into the text box to add it. Before you can proceed with the process, you will be asked to validate your steam ID. Make sure that you provide a valid id number.

Navigate to "My Computer" next. Next, open My Computer. Locate the folder where your custom URL is stored. There will be folders for each of your applications within the folder. If you don’t yet have an application installed, then you will need open the “Add Applications” folder. The section that says "Game name" will be where you'll need to enter your steam ID.

The last step is to click on the "Save" button. After the process is completed you will be able view your profile settings. You will see that your steam id has been added successfully. This Steam ID finder is easy to use and well worth the effort.
