Programming Systems - QT or Vis Stu 2013 Exp

Firstly, thanks for any and all help given in advance.
I have written our back office system in both VB6 and VB.Net (originally 2010 and now it has been converted to 2013 - both the Express Versions). It reads/writes to 2 MySQL databases, emails customers and prints both A4 and Zebra labels (just to give a basic overview of the program).
Now, I have tried to write a brand new version in QT 4.x but when I added a third (or fourth) form, it seemed to fall in pieces and I could not work out why!
So! My first question is, what is the more popular for developing Windows Forms applications?
As I can get both of these for free, why do I need to buy a different one?

It's just personal preference.
Also, it makes sense to stick with an MS product (visual studio) if you're using MS technologies (i.e. Windows Forms/VB/VB.net).
