Thread Concept

Would anyone know a way of explaining or could you direct me to some material regarding Thread? I don't understand them at all. Every explanation I read is in very complicated English.

I want to understand them completely. Either a really good article / book / website etc where this is explained well would be well appreciated.

It's a way to run more than one function at the same time. Depending on the system, it might actually have many processors actually running different functions at the same time, or it might be one processor switching back and forth from one function to another, each time remembering where it got to and carrying on from the same place.

From the simple programmer's perspective, it's a way to run more than one function at the same time.
