WEB SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR - School of Engineering



The mission of Tufts University's Department of Computer Science and the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering in the School of Engineering is to provide superior undergraduate and graduate education worthy of the University's high teaching standards, while remaining competitive with comparable highly ranked educational institutions in research productivity, visibility, and funding. The two academic departments maintain a wide range of computer systems and applications supporting a commitment to dynamic research and highly effective teaching both in and outside the classroom. Simultaneous support of two departments requires a unified approach to systems management that makes most efficient use of available resources and produces a reliable and secure environment for all aspects of academic, research, and desktop computing. * *



The Web Systems Administrator: provides technical, hands-on expertise with web servers, open source and commercial web software, databases, Unix (Linux and Solaris), Windows, Macintosh, and web development programming; designs and implements web applications that interface with databases; performs system administration for Linux and Solaris servers and workstations; provides scripting to automate systems administration; over-sees, guides, and participates in integrated support that ranges from the back-end systems and infrastructure to the end-user's desktop.
Job Requirements

Basic Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree
* 5-7 years of related experience
* Experience supporting multiple operating systems including Solaris, Linux, and Windows in a heterogeneous environment. Familiar with at least two computer languages (c, c++, java, perl, etc); knowledgeable about web technologies such as LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP or perl); strong systems administration skills.
* Experience delivery service and providing front line technical support. *
* Ability to lift 60 pounds. *


Preferred Qualifications:

* Advanced Degree in a technical or communications field; 3-5 years experience in an academic or research environment.
