Attention All Bitcoin Miners

I was thinking about beginning to mine bitcoin, I know I'm a little late to the party and that CPU/GPU mining rigs are downright not worth the time. My question is: is getting ASIC mining hardware worth it? And if so, what kind? Energy consumption is not a factor for me. Any replies would be terrific - thanks!

I've also been told that mining most SHA-256 altcoins is no-good. If anyone disagrees I'd love to hear from you.
