Unfortunately I just can't take any business seriously when their professional email is a gmail account, no offense.
Actually it depends on your definition of "serious" business. The usual hesitation is almost everyone can sign up a gmail, yahoo, hotmail without paying monies leading to us to believe it is not "serious" business entity. In contrast when the email is backed by some domain names which requires pay monies, we tend to view them as "serious" business entity.
This is wrong assumption as some fraud companies essentially make use of such mentality to register with email "seemingly" backed with some domain names and viola you are their bait isn't it?
In this "faceless" internet world, be it a free web-based email or email backed by domain names there is always that element of risk. It is just that those fraud companies use additional effort to "make" their email addresses more legitimate to imply they are "serious" business. It also mean they intend to "scam" more monies out of you since their "investment amount" is much more than a free web-based email :)
