We ended up deciding on "Professional C++" from the WROX Programming Collection. I think it's going to be a little bit of a challenge, but I've heard a lot of good things from their books. I read a lot of snippets from it as well to convince me that it will teach both of us a lot about the language and good techniques. It also covers the C++11 standards to an extent.
I plan on getting Stroustrups "The C++ Programming Language (4th Edition)" when it's released in January and compare the two. I have a lot to learn and I hope between the two books I'll be challenged more than enough.
I appreciate everyone's inputs and I've taken a lot of them into consideration. I'm hoping we'll be happy with our choice, and since the book should be here within less than a week's time, I'll let you know my final opinion on the book.
