I have had a brief look at J, Haskell, D and a good look at c# & Python, how did java get so popular?

was it in the right place at the right time? like a gap in the market or is it the most powerful easy language or what?
Java was initial the only way to make client based web browser applications. So yes it was kind of a gap in the market thing.
When the internet was rising was it a language with the easiest networking (keywords? libraries? what do you call it?)
Most browers at the time had java support and so it was naturally developers' first choice.
HAH, i had no idea java was so flawed
