Skills USA

I signed up for a "programming" competition within the skillsUSA competitions. I've made it to states and from what I've learned about the competition its less a "programming" competition and more a "visual basic" competition.

I've never bothered with visual basic and since I have just under a week to get this thing mastered I'd greatly appreciate, at the very least, a few pointers to creating basic apps.
Alas, you are really on the wrong forum for this.

VB is very much an IDE environment. Get yourself a VB IDE and start playing.

One thing you should know is how to manage libraries (or components).

Good luck!
