Need library like ncurses but not so archaic

Im just writing a program where im going to draw a train and a stick figure man. I want the train to chase the man but I would rather not use ncurses (unless of course its easier than im making it). Any good libraries out there that I dont have to install to use (ill be sending it to someone so odds are they wont have the library if I have to install it). O.S. is Linux.
