Tab controls

I am working with a tab control and I want to have a close button on each tab (like in IE, or FireFox). I want the button to change when the mouse is over it and then rever when the mouse leaves. The problem is that i dont know where to start. Tab controls (in win32) dont simple have a "MouseOver" notification, so how do i know when the mouse is over the X
