I'm learning C++ just for fun but feel free to keep me updated with your questions/problems. I'm interested to see what problems you might run into just for references. :)

I'm learning C++ but without any such goals-am doing a masters in cryptography and communications at royal holloway as a maths student and I really got sucked into coding this summer! Do you get many ideas on what to code from your course? And how far in are you? I've been going through the tutorials, taking notes plus planning ideas for codes in a notebook and writing lots of random small programs on Visual Studio. The original course I was doing was meant for using it with Unreal Engine to make games but it turned out to be badly explained for beginner programmers and although I may go back to it, I get the impression it will be quite simple once I've taught myself everything from the tutorials here. Anyway there's a course on software security which I really want to take as an elective at uni and so I'm aiming for a very high level of proficiency very quickly with the possibility of doing the exams and coursework for it as my most ambitious goal, and being able to write something on my CV about it as my lowest. Will check out the site I think :)

So, I got some class mates already, that's cool! Thanks! Some do know already a bit more, which is good.

Yes, I just started, so I'm a total noob. I'm still reading the chapters from the Institute, and in the mean time I ordered the Stroustrup book (Programming: Principles and Practice Using C++), and will read that in parallel.
So busy times ahead.

We still have a small class. Are there more who want to join? :)

If someone joins a year later, we might be able to help out the new guys, because then we're not that green anymore. This could be a continuous class :)
Hell, we can even close each year with a nice party :)

I prefer to stick with the forum. The knowledge here is awesome and isn't it the best place to get help?

But if we want to have a group where we can be more verbose and a bit informal, we might also choose to create a Slack, I've used this before and it is a real nice web based collaboration tool. Very easy with sharing documents, code snippets and create subgroups.

If we want I can create one, but we surely should stick around here too, as we need help from the wizards on this good forum.

Personally I close Facebook on purpose, as it is too distracting while learning.

Slack has an invitation model. For people to join the Slack, you're going to need to send them invitations, which generally involves getting their email. To that end, it might help to enable private messages such that people can send you their emails to receive the invitations if they're not comfortable disclosing them publically. You can set up self-signup, but self-signup AFAIK requires you to whitelist domains (the portion after the @ in an email address).

Just a suggestion. The idea of a virtual community classroom for C++ is actually really interesting to me.

Our classroom is already filled with 10+ members.

Our level might differ among us, but we have to begin at the beginning.
Others can skip this until we're more or less on the same level.

I think to learn and work together and to have stuff to talk about, do exercises and so on, we have to work from one source. Or maybe two.

So let's start with some suggestions to start learning for our first semester :)
After that we can decide how to go on.

I suggest to move from this site, this is an forum, not a chat-based site, this thread will get old and it will be arhived, also its not so good for comunicateing each other's. (i just say, im not the 'boss' here :))
