VGA maximum resolution possible without memory restrictions?

What is the maximum resolution possible with the VGA's CRTC registers, provided that enough VRAM is available (>256K)? Would it be 1024*9*2 horizontal pixels, 1024*2 vertical pixels (18432x2048 effectively, so a 37MP display)? So with the CRTC registers to their maximum values set (double scanning, divide scanline counter by 2, divide horizontal clock by 2, all CRTC registers set to their maximum values (1023 for the '10-bit' registers (register+overflow register))?
