Debugger's not working

I have a code that I want to debug but all debug features are grey for me. Setting breakpoints won't change anything. I'm using the newest codeblock 17.12.

EDIT : Fixed it by creating a project. That's the only possible way I think is to debug with codeblock.

I don't know codeblocks but this sort of thing can be caused by not compiling in debug mode.
