Just wanted to mention that there multiple methods of learning, people have 1 or more methods that suit them.
For example if it's maths or physics, I learn well from handwriting the material from a book or lecture - if I read or listen it doesn't sink as well as it does when I write it down. So I can understand how boring it can be reading a book.
Visual learning is a big one for a lot of people (including me). For example a UML diagram is very helpful as well as the code.
Whatever (multiple) methods suit you, often nothing is better than practice to prove that you know how to do it & have learnt something.
