Has anyone installed linux ( preferably debian ) with persistence on a thumb drive? Got any pointers?

Not sure about Debian, but there are distros built to run off a flashdrive. The one I know off the top of my head is Puppy Linux.

Haven't tried Debian before, but I've put Lubuntu on a flash drive before (with persistence).

It's pretty easy if you just use UNetbootin: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

I have knoppix on my flash drive. http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html
PS Debian can be on a raspbnerry pi via micro sd so I would assume it will work fine on a flashdrive. Debian website says you can do it on flashdrives too :P https://www.debian.org/distrib/netinst <--small download

Thanks for the help. It seems like all of the options are Live, meaning the OS runs off an image. Is there any way to get the actual OS on the thumb drive?

Does the debian netinst install to the thumb drive? It seems like it is set up just to be something to boot into to run the install process.

I have only used thumbdrives to install Linux distros(Ubuntu,Kali Linux, Linux mint) but I do know a tool for windows that makes a live USB and you can save files

http://www.linuxliveusb.com/

And you can chose your persistence

I will give Arch Linux a shot today, wish me luck :)

I hear Arch is supposed to be pretty involved to get set up. I still say give Puppy a try.
