That was a new spam tactic
Some good methods of automatically getting rid of spammers would be auto deleting posts with 5+ links in the question when the user has a post count < 5.
The links could also be saved to automatically delete posts containing those links since the spammers seem use the same links most of the time.

Nothing deters spammers, as you note. My suggestion was intended to render their efforts ineffectual, which is about the best we can hope for.
And let's face it, no suggestion we make here is likely to ever be implemented, given what we all know about the level of enthusiasm the admin has demonstrated for maintaining and developing this forum ;)
